Student Support Fund for Scholarly Work
**In order to encourage scholarly activity, the School of Medicine may award eligible students once per fiscal year (July 1-June 30) for a maximum of 4 award years (once for each year of medical school) up to $500 toward the costs of scholarly work for the following circumstances:
- The School of Medicine student must be the primary presenter at the conference
OR - The School of Medicine student must be the first author for the published manuscript or book chapter
OR - The School of Medicine student must be the primary representative of the conference organization at the state or national level
**Student must be in current good academic standing. At the time of the request submission, the student cannot have any current course grades <70 and no pending remedial work. If all expenses have been (or will be) paid for by another source, the same expenses are not eligible for reimbursement through this fund and an attempt to do so will be considered unprofessional behavior.
Students must submit the following information to Felicity Broderick via email (fbroderick@umc.edu):
- Current mailing address (this is important as reimbursement checks will be mailed from accounting)
- Copy of Full Conference Agenda
- Receipts for costs including any of the following up to a total of $500: airline, baggage fees, hotel, conference registration, food (will be capped at the current state per-diem rate and receipts must be both itemized and show proof of payment), parking, transportation, publication costs, mileage (must provide a map with calculated mileage from UMMC to conference destination. We do not reimburse for GAS. Mileage will be calculated at the current state travel rate).
- Proof of need: If you are the primary presenter at the conference, you have to include a digital copy of the conference agenda. If you are the primary author on a publication, you have to include a screenshot of your proof of submission of publication. Please provide adequate proof of your officer position if attending as the primary representative at the state or national level.
- An attestation that you meet requirements based on the above criteria**. A simple "I am in good academic standing and meet all requirements to receive these funds." will suffice.
*The attestation is the only thing needed prior to travel. All receipts and other documentation should be submitted AFTER they are finalized.
